What is a ‘Mummy Makeover’?

Childbirth is one of life’s most special gifts – but it can take a toll on a mum’s body.

Sadly, there’s a lot of pressure for women to ‘bounce back’ to their pre-pregnancy bodies. And while lots of this can be done through healthy eating and exercising, some changes can’t always be reversed.

And that’s where the Mummy Makeover comes in.

It normally involves a combination of breast and body procedures and can be done in one or two sessions depending on the patient and the results they’re looking for.

A ‘Mummy Makeover’ will take around 2-4 hours. Here’s a list of the common procedures:

Breast Augmentation

Breastfeeding can cause a sagging in the breasts and a reduction in overall volume. This can usually be sorted with either a breast lift (shape) and/or implants (size).

Tummy Tuck

Also known as an abdominoplasty, it’s a great way of removing excessive skin and underlying fat. It will also tighten the abdominal muscles. You’ll get a more toned tummy that might not otherwise be possible for a lot of mums.

Liposuction

Often combined with a tummy tuck, it’s a great way to target stubborn fat pockets like love handles. Most liposuction is performed in the abdominal area and the incision is usually made low down for minimal visibility.

Vaginoplasty

This is a popular part of the Mummy Makeover. Also known as vaginal tightening, it’s mostly a reconstructive procedure to rebuild the pelvic floor. Having a baby may have left you with reduced firmness and looser musculature. This can help.

*These procedures are suitable for people in overall good health, close to their ideal weight and who don’t plan to have any more children.
