What is a Otoplasty ?

Also known as ear-pinning, the otoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that aims to alter the size or shape of the patient’s ears.

The procedure usually involves making an incision behind the ear to expose the ear cartilage (if necessary) and putting stitches at the back of the ear – either to reshape the ear or reposition it closer to the head.

The otoplasty is usually performed on a patient’s ears should they stick out, are misshapen due to an injury or birth defect, or if they are asymmetrical.

The surgery is widely beneficial and is generally known to improve the patient’s overall confidence – especially if they are particularly insecure about their ears.
